River City Bird Club

Objectives and Goals

Objectives

The objectives of the River City Bird Club are to encourage and assist the breeder and pet owner regarding knowledge, information and support as well as to establish relationships with local avian veterinarians.  Programs have been devised between local avian veterinarians and the membership of RCBC to ensure that no member of the RCBC be denied testing and diagnosis of a sick bird.

Goals

To help the membership in areas such as:

  • Acquiring referrals to other clubs and breeders.
  • To contribute to and support avian research and education.
  • Better understanding avian record keeping.
  • Improving and maintaining better sanitation in the aviary.
  • Understanding avian diseases.
  • Understanding and following quarantine standards.
  • Having a barn (aviary) raising (if needed) at member's location.
  • Have public activities such as seminars and/or marts to raise funds for avian research and education.
  • Encourage members to be involved and support programs such as AFA and others.

Dues

  • $35.00 - Active membership to include two (2) voting adults in same household. If there is a son or daughter in that household (18 or older) who is not a breeder on their own, that individual may join for $10.00. If that dependant becomes a breeder then they must secure their own full membership.
  • $20.00 - Single Membership with one vote.
  • $20.00 - Pet Owners (Under 2 pair of Birds), one (1) vet visit per year.
  • $15.00 - To receive newsletter only.

Application

An application will have to be sponsored by an active member. An application will be submitted to the board. The board will review the application and set a date to visit the new member aviary. The visitation committee will make its recommendation to the board members. Once the recommendations have been discussed by the board and elected officials the membership will vote to accept, table or deny the application.

Membership

Each River City Bird Club member will receive a numbered membership card. The Membership card must be presented to any of the participating avian veterinarians to get a discounted club price. The River City Bird Club will also pay a percentage of the avian vet bill up to a specified amount per year. Our affiliation with the American Federation of Aviculture (AFA) and local veterinarians assures each member that they will get the best services and avian education in the area. Other privileges for River City Bird Club members may be added in the future.

Avian Veterinarians

Participating advisory board veterinarians will have a list of avian services that the club will cover. If there is something that requires other consideration the vets are aware to contact the River City Bird Club to approve any expenditure not on the list.

Fund Raisers/Benefits

The River City Bird Club will have at least one (1) benefit per year. This may be in the form of a seminar, a bird mart or any other activity determined by the membership. The profits from these benefits will contribute to one more of the club's goals.

Standards

Each River City Bird Club member must consent to a periodic walk-through of their own aviary by a designated RCBC committee and perhaps a local veterinarian. This walk-through will be not less than once per year per member.
